Imperial Myth

"teacup" "imperial" "pocket"

These terms are simply a marketing gimmick.

fine boned 5 pound Chihuahua next

to my sturdy small Shih Tzu.  All my

small size Shih Tzu are the same size

as this little girl, Sapphire.

AKC will not register any shih tzu as "imperial" "teacup" or "pocket" those are just a made up sales pitch in an attempt to make a higher profit.

We do get smaller than standard size shih tzu.  If you prefer a smaller shih tzu just ask for a puppy out of one of our small shih tzu girls.

Our puppy prices are never based on size or on projected size.

Ethical, responsible breeders breed to meet the breed standard.  They show in conformation, they participate in obedience and fully Health Test. They do not breed to produce the smallest size possible, to sell for more profit.

No ethical, responsible breeder would be intentionally breeding only to produce undersize, stunted puppies to sell for a higher profit.

The Shih Tzu breed standard states  "compact, solid and carries good weight  and substance "

A shih tzu is not fine boned or delicate, and should not be a light weight.

Of course some shih tzu will be a pound or two under standard as well as a pound or two over standard.  A 5 or 6 pound shih tzu is not "rare" or some kind of new breed.

Remember AKC will not recognize the terms "imperial" "teacup" or "pocket" those are just names people make up, they mean nothing.

If you want a 5 pound dog, you really should be looking at a fine boned, delicate breed like a chihuahua.  Because a shih tzu is such a sturdy  toy breed, a small standard size shih tzu that is well bred, carries good weight and substance, is very small in actual overall size.  Comparable in size to a lighter 5 pound chihuahua side by side.

Weight will vary, an active picky eater will weigh less then a sedatary overeater the same size.

My shih tzu are divided into medium size and small size simply to give buyers an idea of the parents size.

Remember a shih tzu should be "compact, solid  and carries good weight and substance.

No ethical, responsible breeder would be intentionally breeding for a delicate, fineboned , light weight shih tzu, to sell for a higher profit.

If you are looking for a small size shih tzu or a medium size shih tzu, check with us, we just may have the puppy for you.
